Hot Water Systems To Choose From
There are several major brands that provide a wide range of electric, solar, instant, heat pump and gas hot water systems for your home or business. A few examples of popular brands include:
New Hot Water System Install
Whether you’re building a new property, or, replacing a unit in your existing home or business, a new hot water system install requires an experienced and accredited hot water plumber. A specialist in hot water heating can not only supply and install the system for you, but they can also help you understand the differences between brands and systems to select the best option to suit your needs.
Choosing The Right Hot Water System
Choosing the system you want for your home or business is the first big step. Matching the right system to your current and future needs can save you a lot of stress, hassle and money over the long-term. As your local experienced hot water plumber, we can help by discussing your energy use now and ongoing, the location of the installation, your water usage and the size heater you’ll need to meet that, and any concerns you may have, such environmental or cost concerns.
Electric Hot Water System
Electric hot water systems heat and store water so that it’s ready for when you need it and doesn’t impact on water pressure. Most units are designed to heat water overnight so you have a supply for throughout the following day.
Because electric units are designed to store heated water, this has two significant considerations to keep in mind:
- The unit will be larger than other systems, as it needs to store the water
- If you need to use a lot of hot water on a particular day, you can end up running out
Electric hot water heaters are generally speaking more cost-effective units for installation, but can cost more to run over time, as the large size of the units require more energy.
Solar Hot Water System
Solar hot water systems use solar collectors and panels. Sun collectors heat water throughout the day and panels convert visible and infrared light from the sun into energy, which is then stored in an insulated storage tank for later use. Solar collectors are located on the roof which uses glass and copper pipes (called heat tubes, which the sun heats and in turn heats the water in the collector). Solar systems are also available with electric and gas boosters, allowing you to use a mixed energy method for hot water heating when you’ve had insufficient sunlight exposure to meet your hot water needs.
Using a solar hot water system is great for environmentally conscious energy consumers looking to reduce their carbon footprint. Other benefits include a range of rebates that can save money and lower your power bills significantly, the system itself has low maintenance costs and it can potentially increase the value of your property.
Solar hot water systems can be complex and there are several setup options available to property owners. If you’d like more information about installing a solar hot water system, contact us and we’ll assist you as soon as possible.
Heat Pump Hot Water System
Heat pump hot water systems are very different to traditional systems and even solar hot water systems, as they use heat energy from the air around the unit to heat water. By using a working fluid that vaporises as it extracts heat from the air, it can transfer this heat to the water in the tank via a heating coil. As the vaporised fluid moves through the coil, it releases heat into the water and turns back into a liquid as it cools, ready to repeat the cycle over again. The heat pump system only requires 30% of the electricity used in a traditional electric hot water system to run the pump. Which means approximately 70% of the energy required to heat the water comes from the heat in our environment – a superb option for the environmentally conscious energy consumers.
This is one of the more expensive hot water systems available, but considering the small amount of energy it consumes to run, the initial investment cost of this system is recovered over time and has huge savings potential.
Instant Hot Water System
An instant hot water system, also known as a continuous flow hot water system, is another system that only heats water as you need it using a heat exchanger. This can be either a gas or electric system and can result in slightly reduced water pressure – a very small price to pay to never run out of hot water again!
These hot water heaters also do not require a storage tank, as water is heated on demand, so you can reduce your ongoing running costs of the system. It is important to note, if you are considering this system to speak to a professional about the size of your household and your water needs, to accurately determine the size of the unit, as you can lose pressure and temperature if more than one outlet is used at a time.
Gas Hot Water System
Gas hot water systems heats water when it is needed, which is a great choice for more energy conscious consumers and customers looking to reduce their energy bills. A gas hot water heater can be more costly to install than an electric system, but this is offset by the lower ongoing running costs of a gas system.
The only reason you’ll ever run out of hot water with a gas hot water heater is if you run out of gas – so you can trust you’ll always have hot water in your home or business.
